Don Knabe Regional Park, Cerritos
Residents, community leaders, family and friends gathered on Nov. 30, 2016, for the Cerritos Community Regional Park Renaming Ceremony and Community Room Grand-Opening in honor of outgoing Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe.
Knabe shared heartfelt words as he recalled lobbying as a Cerritos resident for there to be a Cerritos Park in the early 1970s. Now, 40 years later, he was moved that the park would bear his name for generations to come.
“The thing I’ll probably miss most is being able to pick up the phone and help somebody and make a difference,” the outgoing Supervisor said. “That’s the essence of this job. It’s been an incredible ride. It’s probably the best political job in America.”
The center’s lobby houses a “must see” exhibit showcasing Supervisor Knabe’s greatest works, memorabilia, photos, interviews showcasing his commitment to service for the 2 million residents of the Fourth District.
Harvest Moon Studio worked with Hunt Design and Cinnabar, to create this unique space, adjacent to the community gym, with media pieces that highlight Supervisor Knabe’s long and varied career.
